Under the patronage and attendance of the President of the University of Technology Prof. Dr. Amin Douai Thamer, the scientific symposium of the Department of Electrical Engineering (E-learning and its Role in the Development of the Educational Process) was held on Thursday 4/1/2018 in the conference hall in the Department of Control Engineering and Systems.

The seminar aims to introducing new information technologies and making use of them in developing the process, informing the scientific departments at the technological university about the department's experience in applying e-learning skills to improve traditional teaching methods. As well as an explanation of how Google applications are available for free.

The seminar began with reciting verses from the Holy Quran and playing the national anthem. The President of the University then delivered a speech in which he welcomed the attendance and stressed the need to promote the educational process at the University of Technology to apply the skills of e-learning to improve traditional teaching methods to keep abreast of developments in the ways of university education. The Head of Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Dari Youssef Mahmoud, delivered a speech in which he expressed his welcome to all attendees and the importance of the experience of the Department of Electrical Engineering in the field of application of e-learning because it has an active role in the development of the educational process. The symposium included two sessions: Assist. Prof. Dr. Abbas Hussein Issa, the Assistant Deputy, headed the first session, where Dr. Uday Ali delivered a lecture entitled " E-learning Based on Google's Education Platform " the second session included the establishment of an applied workshop on the use of the Google system for electronic classrooms in the Central Computer Laboratory in the Department of Electrical Engineering threw By the e-learning team in the department.

The seminar was attended by a number of teachers, employees and students of the department and a large gathering of the attendance of the Heads of Scientific Departments and University teachers.

The seminar resulted in several important recommendations that will contribute to the development of the educational process through the application of e-learning university.

A Master Debate

On Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Dijla Hall in the Department of Electrical Engineering at 9:00 am, the student (Ahmed Ayad Ibrahim) debated for a master's thesis on his thesis (Wireless Power Transmission Using Comparative Magnetic Resonance). The discussion committee consisted of: Assist. Prof. Dr. Sinan Majid Abdul-Sattar / Chairman / Assist. Prof. Dr. Hossam Abdel Ali / Member and Dr. Saad Mutashar Abbas / Member and Mr. Ahmed Saadoun Ezzel Din / Supervisor and Member.

The results of the researcher put the design steps based on theoretical calculations using a number of precise equations. Beginning with the choice of initial values and design determinants declared by the application and the manufacturing technique available and ending with the ideal dimensions of the printed spiral coils that give the greatest efficiency. The values of printed coil spindles were theoretically determined using a MATLAB program to find the highest transmitted efficiency of the wireless transmission system. HFSS 14.1 was used as a simulation tool for design and to verify results obtained from theoretical calculations. The internal and external diameter of the transmitter (6.1 mm) and 32 mm (5 mm) and (10 mm) respectively was printed on an FR4 substrate and the distance between the transmitter and the receiver (10 mm) and using 13.56 MHz as an operating frequency. Electromagnetic simulation led to an efficient system gain in air (74.42% and 73.46%) respectively

At the end of the discussion, the letter was accepted, with minor modifications, and the student was awarded the degree of master with the grade of excellence.

Within the actions of scientific and cultural activity for the first semester of the Department of Electrical Engineering for the academic year 2017-2018, Assist Prof. Dr. Thamer Mohamed Abdul-Wahab presented a Lecture on the (protection of generators and generating stations) in the presence of the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Assist. Prof. Dr. Dari Yousef Mahmoud, Scientific and Administrative Deputies and Heads of Scientific Branches and a number of teachers and employees of the department.

The workshop addressed the identification of faults that can be exposed to the generator in the electric power system in addition to the abnormal operating conditions of the generator and determining the appropriate protection systems to protect the generator and generating stations for each of these faults or abnormal operating conditions.

At the end of the seminar, the discussion was opened and the questions and inquiries were answered.

Within the actions of scientific and cultural activity for the first semester of the Department of Electrical Engineering for the academic year 2017-2018, Dr. Iyad Ibrahim Abbas, Dr.. Khaleda Shaaban Rajab and Mr. Mohamed Ehsan  delivered a lecture entitled (Different ways of classification in face recognition) on Monday, 25/12/2017 on the Hall of Dijlah in the presence of the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Assist. Prof. Dr. Dari Yousef Mahmoud, Scientific and Administrative Deputies and Heads of Scientific Branches and a number of teachers and employees Section .

The seminar dealt with three methods adopted to distinguish the faces, namely Euclidean distance method, Euclidean quadrature method and finally the distance prevention method. A database was built to process 100 images of different faces of human beings and to obtain features for each face using the basic components analysis algorithm, thus inserting the face to be distinguished within the methods adopted for classification. The faces used in training and testing are based on the ORL face database. And then tested on the three methods adopted to distinguish faces Euclidean distance method and the method of square Euclidean distance and finally the method of distance prevention. The results showed a 100% discrimination rate for the conventional distance quadratic method, 98% for the Euclidean distance method and 95% for the distance-blocking method.

At the end of the seminar, the discussion was opened and the questions and inquiries were answered.
