Under the auspices of the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Jabbar Khalaf Mohammed, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the department held an awareness workshop on suicide, its causes, how to prevent it, and its effects on Iraqi society. The workshop was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Baidaa Hashim Jameel from the Psychological Research Center at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the Euphrates Hall, in the presence of the Assistant Head of the Department for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Kanaan Ali Jalal, heads of scientific branches, professors, and students of the department. The workshop concluded with a set of recommendations that would limit the spread of this phenomenon, including launching therapeutic programs to address psychological and personal disorders, activating the role of the media and spreading a culture of hope, optimism and motivation, avoiding the spread of suicidal ideas, cooperating with religious institutions to spread a culture of acceptance of others, avoiding social stigma and prohibiting suicide.
Then, the floor was opened for discussion, inquiries, interventions, and suggestions that enriched the workshop's topics.
At the end of the workshop, certificates of appreciation were distributed to those in charge of the workshop in appreciation of their efforts in making it a success.
