A Master Debate

On Thursday, 11/1/2018, at Dejla Hall in the department at 9:00 AM, the student's thesis (Zainab Mohammed Abdel-Jabbar) was debated to obtain a master's degree for her thesis entitled (Minimizing the Multi-band Discontinuation Filter Using a Modified Resonator with Stepped Impedance). The discussion committee consisted of: Prof. Dr. Laith Ali Abdul Rahim as Chairman, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ashwaq Qasim Hamid, Dr. Ahmed Humaid Rijeh and of the Dr. Raed Thaaban Hamad as supervisor and member.
Where the researcher in her thesis accomplished a new design of mini-bipolar band reject filters using a multi-layer stepped-mounted resonator. The resonator is a dual-band one. The proposed filter was analyzed using the odd-even method and then reconstructed into two different structures, the hairpin with the stepped impedance and the open box resonator with the stepped impedance to design a small dual-band band stop filters. The filter structure consists of two circles on three layers using two substrates. On the lower sub-layer substrate, two of the flexed load resistors were designed and coupled with one to generate and determine the first and second stop bands. To achieve the frequency response of the desired filter, this has been demonstrated by designing a transmission line to signal the upper substrate of one layer and align it vertically with the electrical circuit of the lower substrate. To achieve this concept, two models were designed for various wireless communication systems. The proposed filters were simulated by computer using the simulator ADS that depends on the method of moment.
At the end of the discussion, the thesis was accepted with minor modifications and the student received a degree of
excellent.

A Higher Diploma Debate

On Thursday, January 11, 2018, and at Al-Furat Hall in the Department at 9:00 am, the student (Jaber Mohammed Mizyed) debated to obtain the degree of higher diploma on his project (Protection Equipment for Air Lines of Medium Voltages in Smart Networks). The debate committee were: Assist. Prof. Dr. Afanin Anwar Abboud as Chairman, Dr.Kanan Ali Jalal and Dr. Oday Ali Ahmed as supervisors and members.
The student project included improving the performance of medium voltage networks and reducing the power outages due to many accidents in the distribution system through the installation of intelligent protection system that is controlled remotely by the control unit algorithm.
At the end of the debate, the research was accepted and the student received a degree of
excellent.

The Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control in the Ministry of Planning granted a patent to Assist. Prof. Dr. Eyad Ibrahim Abbas in the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Technology, in cooperation with Engineer Jafar Sadiq Abdul Hadi, on the design and implemented by them on a method to download electricity meter information to the consumer using Bluetooth technology.
The process of obtaining electrical meter data by the meter reader is slow, inaccurate and often incomplete. Therefore, this method is taking readings remotely and using Bluetooth technology after modifying and developing the current electrical meter by adding a Bluetooth device. Then the meter reader will take readings remotely and using any device containing a Bluetooth technology and then collecting data on the digital memory and then delivering the data to the concerned parties in the form of data entering the computer directly. This method is efficient, fast and accurate.

The student Noaf Thabet Mahmoud from the Department of Electrical Engineering received a master's degree with excellent degree for her thesis entitled

 "ZigBee Electronic Reading System"

In her message, the researcher addressed the implementation of ZigBee Smart Power Meter (SEM). The intelligent power meter was created using the recent current sensor, voltage sensor and a very small controller to obtain the required reading of the inbound AC source. To increase the functions of the smart power meter, a relay, a real time clock and a secure digital card were added. Each load reading will display the size on the LCD screen. The reading on the liquid crystal screen is the current, voltage, power factor, power and energy consumed in kilowatt hours.
The discussion committee consisted of Assist. Prof. Dr. Hassan Waryoush Helou as chairman, Assist Prof. Nezhat Saeed Abdul Razzaq, Dr. Manal Hammadi Jassim and Assist. Prof. Dr. Eyad Ibrahim Abbas as supervisors and members.

Master Thesis Debate

Ula Najim Abd, Department of Electrical Engineering, received a Master's degree with a very good grade for her thesis titled

"Design and Implementation of a Reusable Intelligent Control of the Mobile Robot Based on the Programmable Logic Gate Matrix "

The debate committee consisted of:
Dr. Thamer Rasheed Said as Head of Committee
Dr. Saad Mohammed Saleh as Member
Dr. Khaleda Shaban Rajab as Member
Dr. Abbas Hussein Issa as supervisor and member

In this thesis, the researcher discussed the design of intelligent controller that can be re-configured for the mobile robot and the implementation of this controller on the field programmable gates array (FPGA). The mobile robot and the host reveal and avoid obstacles during its movement for a specified distance by setting point in unknown environments.
The mathematical model was introduced in addition to measuring the physical component of the DC motor which causes the rotation of the robot wheels in order to obtain the TF conversion function model for the speed and location of the motor.
